Do Hair Straighteners Damage Hair?
With hair straightening being such a common trend these days among both women and even some men, it’s only natural to be curious about certain things. Among the many questions someone would ask about them is one of the most obvious questions that could come to mind. Can hair Straighteners damage your hair? Well, it’s a good question. Who wouldn’t wonder if exposing their hair or any other part of their body to that high of heat. It’s a naturally expected assumption that high heat like that automatically can burn whatever it touches, and in most cases this is true.
Well, first it’s important to understand how the heat works on your hair. Most hair Straighteners operate at about one hundred to two hundred degrees Celsius and that means that your hair is being exposed to extremely high temperatures. In fact, most Straighteners today have various heat settings ranging from these temperatures, and depending on the situation and your type of hair, each setting is made to work stronger than the last. So, I know, you’re waiting for us to get to the point. The point is simply that hair Straighteners can damage your hair if not used properly, and if you use the wrong ones. You must expect that to be the case when exposing your hair to such high heat anyways, right? However, while damage is possible, it doesn’t necessarily have to be significant or present at all if you take the right steps in preventing it.
It’s important that when you are using a hair straightener that you use some sort of spray or hair care product that can protect your hair from heat. These products will usually work by locking in moisture, so that your hair isn’t easily burnt. Much like other things, when the hair is exposed to that high heat the damage comes from becoming dried out most often, so as long as you do your best to prevent the drying, you’re in good shape.
It’s also important when you straighten your hair that you use a good quality hair straightener. If you are the type that only straightens once and a while for special events, you don’t need to go out and spend two hundred dollars on a good hair straightener. However, if you are a daily hair straightener, it’s probably a good idea to pay the extra dollar for better quality. Not only will they last longer, but more often than not they are less damaging to your hair.
